Kari Dosai Recipe

Kari Dosai is a delicious and satisfying dish that brings together the classic South Indian dosa with a rich, flavorful twist. This recipe layers a perfectly cooked egg and succulent, pounded boneless chicken curry on top of the dosa, finished with a sprinkle of fresh chopped onions. The result is a hearty, all-in-one meal that's both simple to prepare and incredibly flavorful. Perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Kari Dosai doesn’t require any side dishes—it's a complete meal in itself.

Ingredients

  • Dosa batter (enough for 4 dosas)
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup boneless chicken curry (meat pounded)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons oil or ghee
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken Curry: If you haven’t already prepared the chicken curry, cook it first. Make sure the meat is boneless and pound it slightly after cooking for easy spreading on the dosa.

  2. Heat the Pan: Heat a non-stick tawa or griddle over medium heat. Once hot, add a little oil or ghee and spread it evenly.

  3. Pour the Batter: Pour a ladleful of dosa batter onto the tawa and spread it into a thin, even circle.

  4. Add the Egg: Quickly pour one beaten egg over the dosa batter, spreading it out so it covers the entire dosa. Allow it to cook for a minute until the egg starts to set.

  5. Add the Chicken Curry: Spoon the pounded chicken curry over the egg layer. Use the back of the spoon to spread it evenly across the dosa.

  6. Top with Onions: Sprinkle the finely chopped onions over the chicken curry, adding a fresh, crunchy texture.

  7. Cook the Dosa: Drizzle a little oil or ghee around the edges of the dosa. Cook until the bottom is golden and crispy. Carefully flip the dosa to cook the other side for about 30 seconds to a minute.

  8. Plate and Serve: Once cooked, remove the dosa from the pan and serve hot. Kari Dosai is typically enjoyed on its own, without any side dishes.

Serving Suggestions

Serve Kari Dosai hot, straight off the tawa. This dish is packed with flavor and doesn’t need any accompaniments, but you can pair it with a simple chutney or raita if desired.
